I’ve been serving in children’s ministry at our church for the last seven years, and I’ve spent five of those years teaching four-year olds. I’ve seen hundreds of kids come and go, and I’ve had many of them stay in my class for some times up to 3 years (don’t tell the ministry directors). It’s been both an adventure, and a privilege.
The kids are always so happy and excited to learn about the love of Jesus, and eager to tell their parents of his love as well. So many of them have taught me about unconditional love, and friendship.
I admit that I’ve had seasons of complete burnout, and times when I missed a week or two, but the longing to minister to these little ones gets me right back out there.I am forever grateful for children’s ministry. Not just for the fact that my girls too get to spend time with loving teachers that want to share the love of Jesus with them; but for the love so many kids have shared with me.
I’m grateful I get to share Jesus with them, and answer their questions about God’s word. I’m grateful I get to pray for them, and often hear how they pray for me. I’m grateful that years later I get excited and loving hugs as I run into them in the hallways or even at the store. I’m grateful I couldn’t finish writing this post without tearing up, just thinking of how I missed them today.
Have you served in children’s ministry yet? There nothing like it.
